Commissioned by CSUF new music ensemble in 2022, this graphic musical score was created as an expression of place and a means to bridge a gap, allowing anyone to potentially realize the score, no traditional note-reading required.
I found this particular leaf on one of my regular hiking trails, an old revolutionary war era road near where Benedict Arnold plotted with Captain Andre of the British military forces. The Lenape people called this area their home at that time and they had likely made the road before any of us appeared.
The performers for this performance are the William Patterson U. New Music Ensemble (Cedar Ellis, Jeremy Maida, Chelsea McBride, Joseph Sabando, Isla Brownlow, Skylar Hagnar) with Payton MacDonald and Carl Patrick Bolleia, directors, and the composer on piano in concert on Dec 8, 2023.
