Hola (2012)
IN THE COMPOSER’S OWN WORDS
“On vacation in the mountains of northern Mexico, I visited an organic chicken farm. There I met many wonderful and chatty birds that I recorded in all their cacophony and splendor. This piece was created for a performance at the inauguration of one of Jill Sigman’s Huts and premiered there in a version for solo voice and playback. In it, I used those recordings of the chicken farm as the material for the rhythm and pitch of this choral work. John Cage was very much on my mind during my visit that day, although this piece does not have a Cageian feel at all.”
