A Summer Evening (2013)
IN THE COMPOSER’S OWN WORDS
“In 2013 Spectrum NYC invited me to curate a series of concerts where I would collaborate with a different composer/performer each month, creating a program of new and co-composed works. As with many things, it didn’t go exactly to plan in that regard, but we did create wonderful concerts. This piece is one of those. I was on vacation with my family at Kitty Hawk in NC when I began the piece and 3 weeks later Pat and I premiered.
Sine that time, I have arranged it for other instruments and groups, from duos to quartets. Each iteration brings its own vision of that summer evening, the soft breeze, the sense that conversation with the family will never feel completely easy, the glory of the stars as they begin to appear…,”
