Out now: The Wonder Suit: Mexico City Session (2022)

Composer and pianist Eleonor Sandresky is excited to announce her second album of Wonder Suit improvisations entitled The Wonder Suit: Mexico City Session, released by SuperTrain Records on April 15, 2022.

The first three tracks — FIREFLIES, ALLIGATOR, and NIGHT SWIM — are inspired by individual poems by Mary Oliver, and the titles reflect the poems directly. It is the conjured images rather than the words themselves that Eleonor chose to express for these improvisations. In the live concert performances, Eleonor placed a few words from each poem on the piano stand as a pseudo-score, and used those as a jumping-off point to create the improvisations, serving to evoke the memory of the poems and the energy they conjured for her.

A lover of the natural world, Eleonor was inspired to create the final two tracks on the album — ENCOUNTER IN SPACE and SPACE RADIO — by astronomical events documented by NASA in the form of recordings and photographs.

These performances were recorded live at the Academia de Arte de Florencia in Mexico City on July 5, 2015.

“This performance in Mexico City with The Wonder Suit was so special because it was my first time touring with the Suit. I was very excited to present the work in Mexico to a whole new audience. They were amazing: curious and attentive. Live performances are always a collaboration with the audience and on this occasion it felt like co-creating at its best.”
